Eight Months

19 lbs
28.5 in long
Nine Months

19.6 lbs
29 in long
I'm not the best blogger, so here we are again doing two months of updates.
Personality
Clark Lee Tugwell, you are so much fun! These last couple of months have been a blast. Every month it seems like you grow faster than the month before. You are the sweetest little boy. I say little boy because seemingly over night you turned into this babbling toddler. Since my last update, you've started trying to get into everything. You are crawling fast and pulling up on whatever you can to help you stand. You love to gun for the laundry room while I'm doing dishes so you can play in the pantry. You are so mischievous and have the cutest smirk (just like daddy)! You've become quite the people watcher when we go new places (also like your daddy). You like for mommy and daddy to chase you and "get you" (like your Luna). You are a complete joy, and I can honestly say that every day with you is fun.
Here are some of my favorite moments from months eight and nine!
Loves
Bath time
Carbs
Wrestling on the bed
Being scared & tickled
Going on chilly walks
Tearing up magazines and paper
People watching
Playing with mom's hair

Dislikes
Teething
Sleep training (more on that later)
Watching mom walk away
Being overstimulated and tired
Getting out of the bath!

This is the best picture I have of him in his outfit on Thanksgiving Day. He was ready to get in the bath and didn't want to turn around for me to take the picture.
Major Milestones
I know my name!
I went on my first boat ride!
I've graduated out of the walker (because I almost fell out of it!)
I can say "mama" and something that resembles "dada"
I went to my first Wedding (Aunt Anna and Jacob's)
I had my first Halloween and my first Thanksgiving
I can pull up and walk with help
I took my first trip to the Aquarium
I've started brushing my (almost seven) teeth
I'm sleep trained and sleeping through the night most nights!

Trying Moment
By far the most trying moments since our last update have been sleep training. We made a spur of the moment decision on Veteran's Day to sleep train him since he truly seemed ready but unable to fall asleep on his own. After weeks of trying to force rock him or bounce him to sleep, and even trying to get him to fall asleep next to me, we decided it was time to try sleep training again. We've tested sleep training before, but this time I really felt like he was ready. Although I was willing to give up some sleep not to hear him cry, he was waking too frequently and not getting enough rest for his growing body. We decided to sleep train him Monday night. He cried for almost 2 hours with us going in every 2 minutes to check on him, but he only woke up once or twice that night. Wednesday night he cried for maybe 30 minutes, but slept through the night. It took less than a week for him to learn to put himself to sleep, and now he's asleep most nights within 15 minutes without crying. This is such a blessing for mom, dad, and baby!

*We also made it through daddy's first work trip to Orlando at the beginning of October! You did amazing while he was gone. It was like you knew I needed a little extra help that week.
Favorite Moments
Here are some of my favorite moments the past few months:
- Hearing you say "mama" when you want me. It's a glorious sound that I will try never to take for granted. Also the way you play with my face and hair before you fall asleep while breastfeeding. I never want to forget the way your tiny hand reaches for my face!

- Taking you on walks in the baby carrier. You love to take the puppies on walks, and you are content even when it's cold outside. We just bundle up and cuddle the chilly weather away!

- Spending my first birthday with you and my last in my twenties! Even though I was sick it was still so special to wake up on my birthday to you!

- Seeing aunt Anna get married! You did so well during the ceremony (even if you did squeak some)!

- Taking you around the neighborhood for your first Halloween! I thought it was only appropriate that you dressed as none other than Superman for your first Halloween. Daddy went as Clark Kent (the puppy wrangler) and I went as Supergirl (or Super-mommy in tennis shoes & leggings!).

- My last fave/challenge is taking your picture for your monthly updates. I'm an amateur baby wrangler/photographer with a bias, but I think the failed attempts might be just as cute as the final shots.

With Love and Ever Expecting,
Ashton
